Ant Tabs

It all began with a simple typo in an email. Another teacher used my fellow counselor's computer to send out an email requesting that everyone save soda can tabs for the 4H group that she sponsors. Unfortunately in her haste, instead of asking everyone to save 'any tabs' she asked them to save ant tabs. Then the fun began. Numerous people began asking what were ant tabs. Some folks were being humorous but some really thought maybe the request was for antacid tablets or even some sort insecticide. I decided this was an opportunity to REALLY have some fun and convinced my coworker to send out a follow-up email to answer all the questions. We said the teacher was looking for red ant tabs not black ant tabs and that they could usually be found about a foot away from red ant beds. We deemed ourselves 'ant tab experts' and my coworker got so creative, he began signing his emails, 'ant tab assistant'. Most everyone who eventually caught on to the joke, (it did take some longer than others) got a good laugh out of it as well. What was the value of all these crazy antics? Well, I believe a job ought to be a place that is not only serious but fun as well. It ought to be a place where your spirits are lifted and where you engage in your passions. It ought to be a place where you encourage and support those around you. If you don't spend most of your time at work smiling, with a positive outlook, then you are in the wrong place. If your gifts aren't being using regularly and you don't feel enthusiastic and encouraged because of it, then you aren't where God intended you to be and you aren't doing what God intended you to do. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says, "That every man find pleasure in his work--this is a gift of God." It doesn't matter if you are a neurosurgeon or an ant tab expert like my coworker, God meant work to be a place where you exemplify his love, his peace AND his fun loving spirit. Thanks for listening, Lynne Watts, Ant tab assistant extraordinaire.
