How Does My Book Launch Compare to Dan Miller's Book Launch?

In case you've missed all the hype, Dan Miller of 48 Days to the Work You Love has just launched a new book.  The book is called Wisdom Meets Passion:  When Generations Collide and Collaborate. I'm reading it now and it is terrific!  It is a book about the differences between generations and how we each search for and follow our passions.  Dan has a website dedicated to this book and I was one of the lucky ones who got to post "My Wisdom Meets Passion story" on the page!  Check it out here:  Wisdom Meets Passion story

I was also blessed with the opportunity to join in a conference call with him this week where I asked him what it was like to co-author a book with his son Jared who lives in Africa.  Do you find it fascinating to listen to how other authors go about writing, publishing and promoting their books?  I do! Not only did he talk about how he managed to produce a 235 page book in ninety days, he also discussed putting together his book launch. I really took notes on the last topic because as you havve probably noticed, I'm launching two books in just two weeks.  Here's the suggestions he had and how they compare with my planned book launch:

  • Do something more unique and creative than having a book signing at a book store--Dan told us all the details of planning a party for his book launch at a country club.
    • I'm following his lead on this one--my book launch is a birthday party AND a book launch  AND a benefit for MUST ministries
  • Give away something at the book launch--Dan gave away goody bags
    • I'm going to have a special addition to any of my Wyatt books that are sold,  I'm working on that next week--I'll announce it as soon as it's ready
    • I also contacted someone today who will be making special cookies as give aways at the party (they'll look like Wyatt!).  I'm really excited about this detail.  I've been wracking my brain for something unique here.
  • Provide opportunities online for people to participate--Dan had special packages through Indiegogo for people to contribute.
    •  I plan to discount all my books on the day of the book launch and part of the proceeds will go to MUST ministries
  • Spread the word, build the anticipation-- Dan developed a special group on his social networking site where he kept people informed and discussed upcoming events, he blogged and spoke about it on his podcast

So, what do you think? How do my book launch plans stack up against Dan's book launch?
